Asphalt Floor Screed

Is asphalt floor screed a blast from the past? I'm Andy Parkin, Managing Director of the Multi-Award Winning Speed Screed. I'm here to talk about Asphalt Floor Screed. Asphalt floor screed is also known as mastic asphalt has a multitude of applications.  It works well in areas that need levelling and if there is a problem with insulation or damp and is a great option. Asphalt floor screed is made by combining specific bitumens and aggregates with limestone filler.  It provides a good, smooth, hard-wearing floor surface, making it popular in construction. The addition of other polymers means that it can be flexible and resistant to crack formation.  Not only can it outlast most other types of domestic, commercial and industrial floor screeds, but it is also very easy to lay and it cools rapidly, meaning it can be in-situ and foot traffic ready in just a few hours. Key uses include: Drainage falls Levelling surfaces Creating stable bases for other cons...

75mm Floor Screed

75mm Floor Screed, Which screed is suitable? Andy Looks at the options. I’m Andy Parkin Managing Director of the Multi-Award Winning Speed Screed.  Today I would like to talk about 75mm Floor Screed. When talking about a 75mm Floor screed, the substrate needs to be identified.  Do you have concrete (bonded), membrane (unbonded), or floating (onto thermal or acoustic insulation)?  At this depth, lots of products are suitable, however thin smoothing compounds, and some screeds with long drying times at this depth may not be suitable. The ability to lay 75mm Floor screed will depend on the type of substrate. If we take the discussed substrates one by one and identify suitable products for this depth. 75mm Floor Screed - Bonded Gypsol or Gyvlon - flowing screed Keracem Eco – fast drying screed Topcem – fast drying screed Retanol Extreme – fast drying screed Mapescreed 704 – fast drying screed Traditional sand and cement screed Unbonded Gypsol or Gyvlon...

Arditex NA

Arditex NA - The Best Levelling Compound? I’m Andy Parkin, Managing Director of the Multi-Award Winning Speed Screed.  Today I would like to talk about the amazing Arditex NA. Why Arditex NA Levelling and smoothing compounds have always been extensively used in the construction industry, but there was a void in the market in terms of how and where a smoothing compound could be used. Arditex NA has filled the void. The product is a rapid subfloor levelling and smoothing compound that saves a lot of time and money. It doesn’t require any intense preparations or priming before laying.  One of the great perks of Arditex NA is that it’s not affected by moisture. Arditex NA is a latex-based compound that dries and allows contractors to save a lot of time and money on projects. How To Apply Arditex NA Simplicity is the most unique selling point as it is so easy to use. There is no need for any priming and preparation. Arditex NA is very well-known for its versati...

Anhydrite Screed?

Anhydrite Screed - Is it right for you? I'm Andy Parkin, Managing Director of the Multi-Award Winning Speed Screed.  Anhydrite Screed,  exactly what is it? We are used to cement being a part of screed mixes, however in this case, it is an anhydrite binder, and so there is no cement whatsoever. Where does anhydrite screed binder come from? In the UK, it is mainly from the chemical industry.  From the production of acid, it is a waste product that would normally go to the landfill, but in this case, it is milled, and it is actually used in the screed. Does that mean that there's any detriment to the product?  Does it mean that it's weaker?  It is not as durable? No, none of those things.  It is equally as strong.  It works to its designed strength, and so whether your project is a 50-year life or 100-year life, it will be suitable to meet those requirements. What are the benefits of using an anhydrite screed? Eco-friendly It is a recycled...

The product can be used for all types of screed including bonded, unbonded and floating screed layers. As with other types of screed, the ground preparation is key and the following steps should be adhered to when using ARDEX A35: Bonded screed: Use an ARDEX A35 grouting slurry to the concrete base and apply ARDEX A35 while the slurry is still wet. The preparation of the slurry should be done in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions and, as with other types of screeding preparations, the base floor must be free of any debris, dust or other obstruction that could impact the final bonding of the screed layer. Unbonded Screed: ...

A Guide to Self-Levelling Floor Compound

Self Levelling Floor Compounds Hi, I’m Andy Parkin, Managing Director of Speed Screed, a Multi-Award Winning Company based in the UK. In this article, I am going to look at how self-levelling floor compounds can help you remove any small imperfections in your floor base before laying final floor coverings. Things to consider when using self-levelling floor compounds These compounds can be used with almost every kind of screed or concrete substrate, but remember to always consider each installation case by case. Substrate preparation must also be considered – as with every other type of screed placement the area must be kept free of dirt, dust and any other contaminants because these prevent proper adhesion. Pay attention to the thickness: Although some exceptional self-levelling floor compounds can cope with depths up to around 50mm, the majority can only be used for depths of 30-40mm and these often need multiple applications or additives. All self-levelling floor compounds should be ...

RonaScreed 1 Day Overlay

I’m Andy Parkin, Managing Director of the Multi-Award-Winning Speed Screed. Today I’m here to give you a little more insight into Ronascreed 1 day overlay. So What is Ronascreed 1 day overlay? RonaScreed 1 Day Overlay is a cement replacement used to rapidly reduce the level of retained moisture within site-batched screeds. This allows floor coverings to be set down much sooner than conventional screeds. Rapid strength gain permits light foot traffic after 6 hours. Drying of screeds incorporating RonaScreed 1 Day Overlay is influenced by heat generated during curing, meaning drying thicker screeds is faster per millimetre of screed thickness. Screeds installed at 50mm thickness can accept moisture-sensitive floor coverings, which require 75% surface RH before laying after only 36 hours. Screeds applied at 75mm thickness, or greater can get the same covers after only 1 day. Just What are the benefits of the Ronascreed 1 day overlay? Cement replacement system for rapid drying screeds Rapi...
