Floor Screed Fibres

Floor Screed Fibres Why Use Floor Screed Fibres? I’m Andy Parkin, Managing Director of the Multi-Award Winning Speed Screed. I’m here to talk about Floor Screed Fibres? There are a number of fibres that are used in floor screeds to help with the prevention of cracks during drying.  They also reinforce the screed resulting in a much more durable and hard-wearing surface making the final layer more stable and resilient. What are floor screed fibres made of? Screed Fibres consist of polypropylene fibres which will increase the tensile strength of the final layer.  These fibres will disperse rapidly when they are added to the screed because they are coated with an agent that helps them spread evenly across the surface.  Adding fibres can cause the screed mix to become stiffer and more difficult to work but this slight inconvenience is heavily outweighed by the benefits of adding the fibres to screed.  Screed fibres are not used to replace any structural steel reinforcem...

Floor Screeding

The Essential Guide to Floor Screeding Getting it right – which floor screeding should you choose? Hi, my name is Andy Parkin, Managing Director of the Multi-Award Winning Speed Screed. Today, I am going to take a look at floor screeding, specifically how to choose the type of screeding to meet your needs. At the most basic level, floor screeding is simply applying a combination of sand, cement and water to an existing floor base to provide a strong, stable surface on which to apply a top flooring layer. Although the process is simple, there is a lot more to it than just placing the mixture and walking away. One of the most critical decisions is what type of floor screeding and construction you need. If you get this wrong, it can impact on the quality of the floor, the finish and, ultimately, how long it will last. If floor screeding is done badly, it can become a very expensive and time-consuming problem to rectify, so let's look at types of floor screedin...

External Floor Screed?

External Floor Screed I'm Andy Parkin, Managing Director of the Multi-Award-Winning Speed Screed.  Generally, if we're talking about any external floor screed, it tends to be concrete. Of course, screed and concrete terminology can be a little bit confusing at times.  Which is which, can they both be the same? What is external floor screed? There are a few questions we need to ask Is the screed to be covered? Do you require a base for something else to go on top? Perhaps bedding for some slabs? To sit decking on? Does it need to be a wearing surface? Some other reason that you actually want that particular substrate? Some of the external floor screed that we can provide can be non-structural but still wearing. If it is a wearing screed, that means you can traffic it. It doesn't need anything on top to prevent damage through wear and tear. Do you need it as a wearing surface or is something going on top that is going to be that wearing surface...

Gypsol Rapide

0800 242 5589 - info@speed-screed.com - www.speed-screed.com Gypsol Rapide – Flowing Screed Option I’m Andy Parkin, Managing Director of the Multi-Award Winning Speed Screed. I’m here to talk about Gypsol Rapide. Traditional Calcium Sulphate screeds are sometimes classed as undependable in modern construction due to the slow drying times, with 60mm depth taking around 80 days to dry in perfect conditions. However, Gypsol has come up with a product to solve this issue – Gypsol Rapide. It’s a remarkable product that introduces the concept of fast drying with the benefits of a standard calcium sulphate screed. To prove that this screed does actually dry when it promises too, the product has been tested extensively by independent sources. What’s Different About the Gypsol Rapide? Gypsol Rapide is a traditional liquid screed with a super power!: it dries in just a fraction of the time “normal” screed takes. Gypsol Rapide has been developed with fast drying and all the ...

Floor Screeding Companies?

info@speed-screed.com - 0800 242 5589 - www.speed-screed.com Which Floor Screeding Companies? I’m Andy Parkin, Managing Director of the Multi Award-Winning Speed Screed. Let’s talk about floor screeding companies. I know a lot of the time people are searching, trying to find out which are the best floor screeding companies, who should they use, where can they get hold of a reputable company? Well, people are going to think that I’m crazy. But what I wanted to do is give you my opinion of whom I think are the best screeding companies in the UK. Now, that may seem a little crazy. But I think it is very important to do that. So what I would say is that I haven’t included Speed Screed in the interest of being fair. In no particular order: Cadman Group Based in Sale, Manchester. Cadman Screeding and Underfloor Heating Ltd have been installing screed for over 150 years. Along with floor screeding and underfloor heating Cadman can also provide render systems, d...

Do I need a smoothing compound on top of the screed?

Do you need a smoothing compound on top of the Screed before the floor coverings go down? My name is Andy Parkin, Managing Director of the Multi-Award-Winning Speed Screed. The simple answer is generally no. So, if you are laying ceramics, engineered woods, carpets, etc. then, the answer would be no. The finish would be perfectly adequate for all those systems. Thin floor coverings The only time when a smoothing compound generally would be recommended would be if you are laying thin vinyl, any thin floor coverings such as Antico, etc. The manufacturers always recommend that there is a smoothing compound and literally, the smoothing compound is just something that’s going to be a 3mm covering and literally, does what it says, it just smooths out any slight blemishes. You look at the Screed and think, yes you can put the vinyl directly down, however literally, the light will catch the vinyl and you can just see slight imperfections there. So, it is recommended...

Garage Floor Screed

info@speed-screed.com - 0800 242 5589 - www.speed-screed.com Garage Floor Screed I’m Andy Parkin Managing Director of the Multi Award Winning Speed Screed. I’m here today to talk about which is the Best Garage Floor Screed. When we talk about garage floor screed, there are a few different situations where screed is used. New Build When working with a new build, the garage floor screed will generally be structural concrete. The garage floor will always need a structural substrate. A simple concrete floor will provide that requirement. Normally delivered in a ready-mix truck mix, laid to a slight fall. The surface needs to be a wearing surface, if no floor covering are to be laid, and again structural concrete will perform to resist surface abrasion. Overlay If the current Garage Floor Screed needs an overlay, perhaps to level, or repair, then we are generally looking at a thin Levelling Compound. Any cracks should be repaired before the compound is laid, a ...

Flow Screed Minimum Thickness?

info@speed-screed.com - 0800 242 5589 - www.speed-screed.com Flow Screed Minimum Thickness I’m Andy Parkin, Managing Director of the Multi-Award Winning Speed Screed. Just what is the flow screed minimum thickness? Do you need to know the flow screed minimum thickness? It is a question that we are often asked “I’ve only got 10mm, I’ve only got 20mm. Is it okay for the flow screed?” I’ll try to answer that here and now for you. When we’re talking about flow screed minimum thickness, generally, we are talking about the calcium sulphate version. This is the one without cement and has a calcium sulphate binder, as opposed to the cementitious version. There is a cementitious version but it currently only accounts for a very small percentage of the market of the flow screed. If you have a structural floor and you need a screed on top, then this product is ideal. It can be used in bonded, unbonded, floating construction, floating construction with or without underfloo...
